African Sunday

Culture and FASHION at Moi University

MUCU decided to end February with a banger! MUCU, short for Moi University Christian Union, is led by some of the warmest students in the faculty. The leadership decided to use Sunday 24th, February’s last Sunday, as their African Sunday. This required the students who had traditional attires or anything symbolizing their culture to wear them to church on that day. Turn out of events was a colourful Sunday. 75% of the students came dressed in African attire. Headbands, jewellery, dresses, skirts, shoes, men’s shirts and trousers, all sewed in kitenge, themed the day. The service was lead by the African Swahili and the songs were from Kenyan tribes including but not limited to Turkanas and Luhyas.

The most fascinating part of the day is how art, culture and fashion were merged. The students confidently wore their beautifully designed traditional attires. It’s also amazing how fashion is so immense to the extent of taking traditional dressing to a new level. Fashion has been combined with lots of things. Its combo with tradition is my second favourite after fashion and official meetings

On behalf of those who enjoyed the day, I would like to thank the MUCU fraternity for supporting all tribes through the African Sunday program. What are your views on the same? Feel free to leave a comment on the comments section below.
